Housing Benefit claim

My anxiety is hitting the roof tonight, I can’t breathe or find a way out of my f situation - every turn I make, I am reminded of him.

I was claiming housing benefit, I took on a new client (self employed) and daughter started uni (change of circumstances). HB have stopped my claim and have asked for;
Bank statements
Child benefit letter - to stay when CB stopped for older child
Letter to state I am self employed
Nursery fee invoices
Filled in an info 26.

I’ve had a visit from them and now I’ve got an appointment to see them at there offices - customer service desk. They are asking for all the same bloody stuff. My only worry is they want statements from a closed account. I was moving my TCredits due to my ex and once we split I closed it. My ex (DV relationship) was stealing money. I owe bank fees also on this closed account and write on all correspondence I’ve moved. Now I fear if I go in and get the evidence needed, I will be chased for money.
I need my HB for Legal Aid too - they are awaiting the letter. I am in such a mess 😪😪
I’ve wrote to my MP and provided all the other evidence. I feel sick. I am over £2,000 in rent arrears. I feel like to getting a loan and paying the arrears and just leaving my claim.

Can you register for online banking and get copies that way?
I'd explain the circumstances to HB and show you have an overdraft. They just want to check you don't have loads of capital.

Hi, I don’t have the account anymore. I had two accounts and would move my TC to another account to stop my ex accessing my account.
I don’t have an overdraft, my credit rating is a complete mess as my abusive ex left me in a lot of debt. I will just have to explain to them and just get a loan out to clear my arrears, if my claim isn’t processed. I am not sure what else I can do

Is it the bank statements you are worried about? Why would you send statements for a closed account? Just send the account you use.

It sounds like they're looking into a historic claim (or long term claim) hence needing statements from an old account.

op I suggest you explain your circumstances or, if that's something you'll struggle to do did you have any help from women's aid or similar? It's not the first time such a thing has happened.

When you go into the counter, if the account is closed make a statement to advise of this.

ivykaty44 · 20/10/2018 19:32

You don’t send statements for a closed account / hb have asked for statements from this account as they haven’t had a closing statement and therefore don’t know it’s closed - so will need proof of closure or statements. It’s pretty stand to ask for bank statements for all accounts

You could go to Citizens Advice, they can help and reassure you through the process, and can even make phone calls on your behalf - sometimes council staff are more helpful to CAB advisers than to customers - or help you write letters etc.

Hang on in there, you will get it sorted Flowers
