Hello, I am a new poster here hoping someone can give me advice please.

Due to a change in circumstances it is looking look I will need to claim HB. Currently work 30hrs a week, DS 5 and DS 3, I receive CTC and WTC. I know this will mean changing to UC and after reading all the stuff online am actually quite scared to make the change! I have 2 main questions -

  1. My tenancy agreement ended in March and has therefore gone onto a periodic tenancy by default. I have not chased this to be renewed as a) I dont want to contact the landlord and have my rent increased and b) I dont want to sign another 12 month tenancy in my current financial position, do not want to be tied to the house just in case. I have a SO to the letting agent every month is this sufficient evidence to claim UC?

  2. I get paid once a month the same amount every time so normally would be fine. This year however the company I work for have done really well and as a result I may be getting a one of bonus payment of 3000 in March 19. Have read about surplus earnings affecting your UC claim for up to 6 months meaning I wont receive anything and will have to keep reapplying until surplus doesnt count anymore? Does this mean I will receive zero for 6 months after?

Any advice greatly appreciated, I have no idea what to do at the minute. Thank you.

Not sure about the second question but I am pretty sure you would need a proper tenancy agreement to claim UC.

For the 2nd question i would presume your UC amount would be significantly reduced because of the bonus, but surely thats fine because you'll have the £3k money to be able to use instead. Once its been used, then UC should be able to started again
