Question about child benefit

Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question but I’m not very clued up on benefit issues!

My partner and I are trying for a baby and I’ve just been reading up on child benefit. The article states that a couple can claim £20.70 a week for the first child and £13.70 for any additional children. So if were to make a future claim this would be my first child but technically my partner’s third as he has 2 children from a previous marriage, so would we get the higher or the lower amount? (His children do not live with us and their mother claims CB for them seperately).

Thank you in advance.

As far as I know you get the first child amount as it's the first child you or your partner are claiming for (you can choose which of you claims it but you can't both)

It's the higher amount don't worry
