Hi,

I've said I'll help a friend complete their online tax return ... except I've never done one before 🙄

We have login details, but just some advise on what I need ... Is it fairly straightforward (can a numpty like me do it easy enough?)

Any advice welcome please! TIA 🙂🙂xx

It depends how complex their tax affairs are and why they need to do a SA return. Self employment and landlord taxation is a lot harder than just employment and interest. The online system is menu driven so in theory is simple, but you need to know what's allowable and what isn't if you're claiming expenses, and also the difference between cash and accrual accounting, and capital & revenue distinction if they're self employed or a landlord. Lots of potential traps for the unwary. After all, the online system is just putting figures in boxes - if you don't know what boxes they go in, and if they should go in boxes at all, you're going to struggle.
