ATM withdrawal issue

I wonder if anyone could help.

I’m on holiday in the Uk for a month (expat).

Last Tuesday I went to a Sainsbury Bank atm and tried to make a withdrawal for 800 (from my overseas account). The machine at first seemed ok with the transaction, but then whirred for ages and eventually said that the withdrawal could not be processed.

I immediately got a text on my phone to say that the transactio HAD gone through.

I went into the Sainsbury and they said that there was nothing they could do, but that this did sometimes happen and not to worry it should be reversed very soon.

I later called my bank, who said that the money had been set aside for the merchant (Sainsbury) but that is all they could see.

As at today I still don’t have my money, and I am getting really concerned.

What can i do?

Normally you would do a disputed atm withdrawal form with your own bank and then they would liaise with the other bank (Sainsburys) to see whether the atm was out by the amount of your withdrawal. They would then refund back to your account. £800 is a lot for 1 transaction, we are normally limited to £250-£300 per day

There's normally a limit of £300 per day here.

Thanks. The limit is a lot higher where I am from, I thought that the rules of my bank would apply.

I’m sure ATMs can only handle £500 in one go.
