I went on hiliday/businesstrip and sublettet my flat to a girl and before the time was up she extended and prepaid for the time so I went ahead and extended my trip, paid my flights, hotels etc...Now she found a flat that she likes better went ahead and rented it and made payments for the other flat and is asking me to return the money she already prepaid for my flat.! Shes threatening me with subletting flats being illegal blah blah...I tried helping this girl finding a flat and now this is how she thanks me.

Im here in the middle of my traveling that I have now to cancell to go back to the flat and sort things out. I also found out that an additional person was living inside the flat! Now Im going to go there but I dont know what to do as in no way can I return prepaid money on something we already agreed and end up paying double rent (rent of flat, l´plus hotel fees for traveling)

I just wanna go to the flat collect the fees and tell them to fuck off! Do you think I should go there with the police or what would be the best thing to do? I also dont wanna lose my flat its difficult to find a flat in a good area! Im really stressed now.. I didnt tell her my real name but Im sure theres stuff in there with my real names, letters parcels etc...but she cant proove to my landlord that I rented the flat I only want them to leave and give me my keys but I can not return any payment as I already made lost etc and that is what we agreed.

Thanks in advance

You sublet to someone without even telling them you’re real name? Hmm
You deserve what you get.

Why are there 2 threads exactly the same?

swingofthings · 26/07/2018 07:22

So I assume there is a clause in your contract that says you can't sublet and you are worried she will report you to your landlord.

Firstly, would she know who they are? Secondly, would your LL consider this of concerns above the pain of going through the eviction process and finding another tenant?

What contract do you have? Is it fixed term? The worse that could happen is your LL deciding that they aren't happy with your subletting and ask you to vacate, that is depending on the terms of your contract.

I wouldn't really worry but I would take this as a lesson to learn. It might have sounded an easy way to make money whilst away from your place, but it could end up very costly. What if she'd refused to leave, changed the locks and refused to pay you anything at all?

I see you're not getting the answers you want on your first thread? I can say with some certainty that anyone that responds to this thread will say the same.

So....the same thread, except now it's a holiday/business trip not just a holiday.
That doesn't alter the fact that subletting is illegal. Give her the money back and cut your losses
