Pension help please

I'm an NQT but I have a private pension already from previous employment.

Can I move my current pension to my teacher pension?

How am I supposed to know whether this is a good idea or not? I don't know anything about pensions other than it's a good idea to have one!

I'm also in a lot of debt at the moment from my years as a student parent so i can't afford to pay a financial advisor (and wouldn't know where to start trying to find a decent one anyway).

I had a rubbish private pension and used it to buy additional years when I joined the public sector as it was a final salary scheme. Don't regret that but ideally you need to pay for some independent advice.

You could give Teacher Pensions a call and ask them.
