I'm after some advice on maternity allowance please!

I am currently employed and self employed but have only been earning since November and so have not earnt enough on either to pay NI. If I had a full years accounts I think I would just do it.. Now I was under the impression that I could make voluntary contributions but I'm finding the HMRC website very confusing!

I currently earn around £150 a week across my employed and self employed jobs and so I was hoping to receive the full amount of maternity allowance. I have asked my accountant all of this and he has gone quiet so was Hoping for some reassurance from someone knowledgeable on here!

any advice hugely appreciated.

This seems to explain it all. You'd need to make voluntary contributions but need to contact HMRC to get the details where to pay and how much.

Yes you can make voluntary contributions, I recall paying about £13 a month or so class 2 NI.
