screwed over by universal credit

We’ve been claiming Universal Credit since January and had the carers element and disabled child element as my daughter was receiving dla and I was eligible for carers allowance.

My daughter’s dla wasn’t renewed, which I’m appealing (but might not get a tribunal date until January) and as a result I lost that and carers allowance at the end of June.

I informed Universal Credit within a good amount of time and had our monthly amount this week. It turns out that although they have partly deducted carers allowance from our amount, they don’t pay part amounts for the carers element or disabled child element. Making us £200 roughly worse off this month.

I’ve queried it and all I’ve been advised is to take it to my MP. What use will that be if that’s what their ridiculous policy is? That they can partly deduct money from our total but can’t partly add what we should have been entitled to

yes I think with UC if there is a change part way through your assessment period then that element won't be paid for the whole assessment period. carers allowance is different because it is paid separately to UC and then just deducted pound for pound from your entitlement.

If your daughters DLA is re-instated then the elements should be back paid so you will get back what you have lost as well as the DLA payments.
