Hello so few questions I have just had apply for benefits my DH use to work now we have split am having to go solo my point is how long does it take ? I obviously receive CB for my children but that's all I get until my claim sorted also secondly does everyone have a rainy day fund? Or is it just me who doesn't time alike this I wish I had!

It will depend which benefits you are claiming. if you are in a Universal credit full service area then you will need to claim that and it can take up to 5 weeks to get your first payment but you can get an advance to tide you over. Child benefit will continue to be paid separately. if you have 3 or more children then you currently can't claim Universal credit. if you claim tax credits instead then the claim will be quicker.

If you have children under 5 then you could claim income support, if over five and you are not working then you would need to claim Job seekers allowance. If in a universal credit area then there would be different work commitments depending on the ages of your children.

I think it took about a fortnight for income support and a month for tax credits. No idea for universal credit though I'm afraid.

Currently can't claim UC due to having more than 3 children I had tax credit claim bout had change to single. Then av made claim for ESA just struggling on £70 not complaining just hard with 6 of us to feed. Hoping to go back to my job in few months after little break xx
