If I've never had a credit card will I fail every credit check a company does ie estate agent or sky tv? Is that what happens?

No unless you've had bad debts and repayments to ruin your credit score.
Have a look on experian it will tell you your credit score, I didn't have a credit card when i first checked and had never had any loans or finance etc and it was 1 point off perfect.
It may make them wary to lend large amounts as there's no history of you managing it but it wouldn't fail you on an estate agent check for example.

Yes, there's a paying version you can subscribe to which gives you with tips to improve your credit rating, but the basic sign up which just tells you your score is free.

I remember my OH grandma going mental when she applied for credit, I think it was a studio catalogue or something.
She has a lot of money in the bank and never had credit before. She got rejected by the company and she couldn't fathom as to why and she was going ballistic 😂
We had to explain to her that because she has never had credit she was automatically a higher risk they weren't willing to take
