Can you get tax credits if your household salary is £13,000?

My friend has lost his job and for the past 6 months he is earning roughly an amount that equates to £13k a year.

He is 28 and has no children. Has own home.

Tell him to use the online calculator.

The threshold is very very low if you have no kids or disabilities, he may just about make the cut. I'd say he'd have a better chance at claiming housing benefit and council tax support
Tell him to call the tax credits helpline

Why would he?

I think they have been stopped if you have no disability or children, sorry.

You can absolutely claim if you're over 25, with no kids or disabilities.
Your income has to be very low though, and from memory you have to work approx 30+ hrs per week I believe. Good luck!

I think 13k is around the cut of for working tax credits for a single person. he would also need to be working 30 hours as others have said. Unfortunately there is no help with mortgage. He should use an online calculator for Universal credit or tax credits. Can he take in a lodger?
