Tax credits

Hello ladies,

I'm a single mum who works full time and have been receiving tax credits since split with husband about 3 years ago. Payments have been consistent every 4 weeks and never altered, no circumstances have changed but I've just checked my bank and the payment this month is around £400 less than usual! Just checked my online tax credit account and they show the next 2 future payments as being the same so they've reduced by over £100 a week!! Haven't received renewal pack for this year yet but I'm panicking now!
I'll call them tomorrow obviously but just wondered if anyone has any idea?! 😢

You need to contact them, I suspect they will say they it's due to 'overpayment', that's what happened to me.

This is usually down to an overpayment, sometimes these overpayments don't seem to come to light until a couple of year later , it's a very unfair system. How much is your annual salary and how many kids do you have and do you pay childcare ?

Babyroobs · 14/05/2018 11:07

You say £400 less than usual , so how much do you normally get as even £400 seems a hefty amount unless it includes childcare costs.

idlikemoresleep · 14/05/2018 12:47

Yes I pay childcare costs of 250 per month. Annual wage is 17000
I spoke to them earlier and they said the tax office had informed them my wage is £28k per annum (I wish!!)

Gave them my p60 details which show my £17k earnings and they said they'll look into it 🤷‍♀️
Very confused!

Babyroobs

Usual amount is around £600

The £600 doesn't seem excessive then with that amount of childcare, hope you get it sorted, sounds like they just have the wrong figure down and will adjust it accordingly.

Hope so! I know there was an issue with the payroll software at work a while ago and it caused everyone's tax codes to go weird and sent the wrong data to hmrc which is currently being dealt with so I think it maybe has something to do with that. Just means I'm £400 a month down until they sort it 😕

Keep on at them and if you don’t get it resolved quickly then get your MP involved as they really can speed things up.

Thank you! I will do :)
