To move to a joint account

So long term partner (8 years, DS together) will start to contribute to the mortgage I’ve been paying for the last 4 years. It’s previosly been my house only and just me on the mortgage.

Question is, now we want to completely integrate and share all household bills and mortgage etc. And he wants to have a joint account. I guess so I don’t have all control.

  1. how easy is it to move all direct debits from my personal account to a new joint account.

  2. For the mortgage, I’m guessing mortgage company won’t allow movement in bank account unless DH is named on the mortgage??

He will be named on the mortgage soon but can’t be bothered with all the faff on the change direct debits although I understand he wants more control/viewing of the finances.

Could you add him to your existing sole account? I got added to dhs account. I still have a sole account too

Just add him to you account making it a joint account and then add him to the mortgage details.

We opened a joint account and moved the mortgage DD to it even though the mortgage was just in my DH's name at the time. No issue. They just sent a letter saying if we didn't keep up repayments the house could be repossessed. Also when we opened the joint account the staff at the bank moved all our DD's for us. So easy.

What Mrs L said! The bank doesn't really care what account they get paid from, as long as they get paid.

Ok, so if I just add him to my account where all DD come out, can he then see all accounts under my name? I have two current accounts and savings which I would like to keep separate.

Just wondering as I use mobile banking a lot and I can view all accounts under one login!

He would get his own log in details and would have access only to accounts in his name/joint accounts

DH and I each have our own current account and credit card, then a joint account for bills and a joint savings account. All with the same bank. On my internet banking I can only see my accounts and the joint ones. Same for him.
