Switch payments that have taken more than 10 days to clear in my account???

I bank with the Abbey and keep an eye on my account on-line and make my decisions based on what I see on-line. I find in general this is fine as the Switch payments are usually pretty immediate in showing.

At the weekend I had a bit of a splurge (on food, nothing exciting) and have checked my account today to find that Switch payments from as long ago as 3rd May have only just come off my bank account and have only today made a difference to my Bank balance.

I know it's my fault I spent the money but I am hacked off!

Looks like I'm going to have to increase my overdraft to pay for prawn and salmon!!!

Mrs Spoon, I did too and only found out that it came out today. The payments were made on 3rd May.

I think they have had some computer problems.

But it is annoying!

Thank goodness it is not just me, yes the payments were all 3rd/4th May, about a hundred and fifty quids worth!

I should know better I am married to accountant who is always telling me to keep a spreadsheet. Also because I married to accountant getting extra money is like getting blood out a stone, almost have to fill in forms (before anyone starts about equality I normally have ample for my needs, my separate account is purely a budgetting issue).

TBH it's given me the kick I need to sort my personal (as opposed to family, DH takes care of those) finances out and not end up in this position again.

Yes, my account is with the Abbey. I made some debit card (visa debit card) payments to BT and another company on the 3rd of May for £70 and both payments came out yesterday.

I actually called these 2 companies to enquire if my payments went through and I was assured they did.

So I was expecting them to come out.

oh haven't checked today yet, but I was surprised to see that yesterday my Sainsbury's switch payment from Sunday hadn't left my account. Like you I usually find its next working day.

happens to me really regularly - especially restaurants, supermarkets over weekends. Have had stuff take atleast 10 days.

Have started keeping a spreadsheet which put in the daily spent and all bills and it gives me a balance. It is sometimes a bit out due to the delays but it evens up eventually. For example It is showing £381 less money than my bank balance as I'm waiting for nursery fees to clear, but atleast when they do I wont have spent it already on fancy things!
