AIBU about credit checks

Why will they not tell you why you have been refused credit? Have no debts, all payments made on time and have a very small mortgage. I am on the electoral roll.

They will all have their own criteria. I suspect some want people who will miss a payment, so they can be hammered with fees. You have a good history of repaying debts, they may not want you as a customer as you may not make them money!

Do you have credit cards? If the limits are decent, but there's no balance, this could count against you as you appear to have access to a lot of credit.

Ironically, credit cards with small limits also count against you.

It's a really stupid fucking system

Also, weirdly if you don't use credit cards then it can go against you, because they want to see you can use it responsibly. It's a crazy system.

It wasn't for a credot card. I still don't in understand why they can't tell you though.

If the decision was automated. ie, made by a machine, you do have a right to have an underwriter look at it personally.

Have you got a copy of your credit reports from all 3 agencies? They can be wildly different.

RedHelenB · 11/04/2018 21:42

Yes. There is nothing negative on there at all but I was told that they couldn't say why I was refused.
