Ex paying morgage

Hi I recently split from my partner , we have a joint mortgage and he has agreed to pay the full morgage payments as my part time wages would not cover it. We have 2 small children and he is also paying child maintenance to me. He has a good job and can afford to do this. I am going to inform tax credits that he has left and I think I will have to make a claim for universal credits now as it is live in my area. What my concern is will anything I am entitled to ( universal credits , council tax reduction ) be affected by him paying the morgage ? And as i am making a single claim will it be a problem as our credit reports will still be linked with our joint mortgage in place. ? I would be very grateful for any help on this , karen x

Are you married?

Any money he gives is child maintenance really isn't it? He's giving it because you have children together and he is supporting them.

It would be easier if he gave you this in cash as someone paying bills for you is I think a question people ask about when you claim benefits.

Child maintenance on the other hand isn't something that causes child tax credit to be reduced.

Unsure about universal credit.

It's best if you keep an eye on and control paying of bills so you don't end up defaulting on your mortgage if he forgets a payment I think.

Hi thanks for replying ...we are not married , the morgage comes out of he’s personal bank account. All the rest of the bills will be in my name and me paying them. X

Is there a reason why the money can't be added to child maintenance and you can't switch the mortgage payment to come out of your account?
I just think it leaves you quite vulnerable.

Also someone paying a bill on your behalf might affect benefits.

Mainly just bumping though for you as I know it's not your main question.
Hope someone can help soon

Start looking for a full time job. He is not obliged to pay the mortgage for you, only child maintenance, and I would be very surprised if he continues to do so for the duration of your mortgage.

Hi Karen0110, I'm really curious to find out what happened in the end with your UC and bills? I am in a very similar position. Thanks.
