Hi

I have just recieved an invoice from our solicitors for a sale of our house we had to pull out of over year ago. I asked the solicitor on a few occasions at the time in writing for the invoice however he didnt send this to us. He has just emailed me out of the blue with a total amount owed and not provided any breakdown of costs. We have since bourght another property so ths bill had arrived totally out of the blue. I guess we owe the solictor a fee for the work he did, it didnt get very far in terms of the sale. I dont see how he can just contact me now about this when i was quiye prepared to pay at the time but this is over a year late. i wanted to know if i have any rights in the situation ? Coukd anyone help ? Thank you

Just because he didn't send it at the time doesn't mean you don't owe it. He's probably doing his end of year finances and realised he missed this.

@feral sending over a year later is okay then this happened in October 2016 even though i asked several times for an invoice at the time ? Also he hasnt sent an invoice or breakdown of the amount just a figure to pay. Surely this means i can take a year to pay it now hes taken over a year to send a request to pay.

I imagine you'll still have to pay it but I would consider making a complaint first about the lateness of the bill and ask about why it is being sent now.

They should have sent you a client care letter when you first instructed them (ie asked them to act as your lawyers) with details of how to complain.
