CCJ's

I have received an email, it's a legitimate company etc and it says I have a CCJ against me for a debt outstanding with them. I checked the register and its not on there. I've also checked my credit report and its not on there either.. Could they be making it up to scare me?

Do you have an outstanding debt to this co? It could be legitimate if it's only just been issued by the Court it wouldn't be registered yet. If it was me I'd call the co and ask either for a copy of the CCJ (ideally) or details of the claim number and county court so you can call the court and check the details yourself.

The court will have sent you a copy though if it's legitimate but appreciate some post does go missing.

The fact it's an email not a letter would make me wary though.

Does it give any details of the CCJ? You should have a reference number, judgement date, and outstanding amount. You should contact the court with that information. Alternatively, google the company and use the contact details on their site, not the email.

I have a CCJ (soon to be gone, thank goodness!) and I never received an email about it. everything I got was always through a letter. Also, it is most likely you'd be contacted about it by a solicitor, not the original company.

It was a solicitor, had the outstanding amount and judgement date, the judgement date was 24th October 2016 and the letter(s) was sent to an old address so I didn't actually know until I saw this email.

Did it have the court on it? Because I'd imagine any CCJ from 18 months ago would be on your credit file.

Does the debt make sense?

louisag1992 · 26/03/2018 09:27

It does makes sense yeah, they said Northampton Court when I phoned them but I just don't get it. I've even checked the register for judgements under the old address and it says nothing is registered....
