Wills with HSBC!! Beware

As part of a financial check up with HSBC, I asked them to set up my will (something I previously never seemed to get round to sorting out). I was advised that if my will was with HSBC they would automatically become executors of my will which I agreed to. I found out later in the small print that as executors upon my death they would take 2% admin fee from my estate. So that would be 2k on my 200k estate 😱. As soon as I realise I halted the process and now paid £180 one off fee via a solicitor to set up my will.
How many others are out there with an HSBC will that don't realise this clause???

This sounds fairly standard - admittedly they should have made it clear to you. Were you thinking that they would act as executors for free?

I was paying a fee for them to set it up, but not having hsbc as an executor wasn't an option.
