Car Insurance Guaranteed Car Hire

Hi, not sure if this is a good place to post. But our car insurance is due for renewal and I am struggling to find an insurer who would provide guaranteed car hire in the event of an accident (not just write off). We have a 7 seater and need it for 3 car seats, but the courtesy cars offered IF they are available, wouldn't be suitable in my experience.

I've just used this with Direct Line and I had the option to upgrade the hire car offered.

Oh great thank you. Will get a quote.

We're with Direct Line and have a hire car with our policy. Recently had a minor bump and needed a hire car and it was no problem. However, and this could be to do with the type of our insurance, they would only provide a small car which was the size of a corsa. So we paid (I think) £30 to upgrade to a large car. Actually it wasn't large, although they said it was - couldn't even get our tiny collapsible buggy in the boot. They offered us to pay £70 for an extra large but we declined and made it work by not using the buggy. You might have the option (not sure) to pay more on your premiums for a larger car.

All in all though we found their premiums to be reasonable and their service to be good. The garage that they chose to do the repair work less so but Direct line organised compensation for the garages incompetence, so again a good service from Direct Line.

Great to hear. I did a quote and yes you do have the option to pay more for a similar type car in the premiums. (I think hire car is standard otherwise). I was surprised that the quotes were quite competitive so may go with them. Just gotta ring them as he online quote didn't cover me for 2 cars.amd give a discount etc.

IME Direct line are v good as they also offer free business cover if you buy online (if this is something you need) and also the option for zero voluntary excess (obviously this might be an affordability issue on premiums).

Direct line are really good if you have to claim. I can't fault them.

snozzlemaid · 23/03/2018 16:44

When I claimed with direct line they came and collected my car and delivered a hire car to me. This was collected from home once my car was returned to me. So easy and hassle free.
The hire car was amazing too. They gave me one of a similar size and checked if I needed child seats too.

That's awesome. It is still slightly over my other quote but I need to check if I am comparing apples with apples. Like the thought they will deliver hire car to me which would be a big thing in itself.

LV were the cheapest quote I had and delivered and collected a hire car when my car was damaged.

venys · 26/03/2018 23:24

Thanks RedHelen. Do they just do a small hire car though? I need a wide one for three car seats.

With direct line I got a Hyundai Tucson.
It was bloody huge and only had 500 miles on the clock. It was a shame to give it back.

I got a Nissan juke.
