Tax Summary

Can anyone advise on this?

Just received tax summary from HMRC.

It says total earnings £14,000
Tax free allowance £11,000
Income tax payable at 20% = £600
Then next line it says Total income tax = £1200
[I don't understand why these figures are so different]
Then NI 900.
Total tax paid = £2100

So this looks as if I've paid a lot more tax than the 20% I am supposed to have paid. Why could this be?
There were no other earnings listed or in real life.

Are you self employed

Does it have a bit in green after Income Tax?

carefreeeee · 23/03/2018 13:17

No, employed by large company, started this job in October 2016,
Worked for another company from June to Sept 2016, temp contract (earned £4500). Before that I didn't work for 18 months (no earnings or benefit claiming).

No bit in green

Give them a call- they’re usually very helpful. Mine has a bit in green after that stating the calculation.
