Energy bill from 2016???

I’ve just had a bill from an old supplier, for the period ending Dec 2016. It’s based on an estimated reading and says it will take £86 by direct debit in seven days (actually 2 because of post).

Is there any way I can check / dispute this? Can they take a direct debit that is so old?

I’ve rang the company and they just kept reading out what the bill says, with no actual answers.

Ah that’s interesting. I left this company last year and meter readings were sent at this time. The bill is based on estimated readings so that doesn’t make sense, and it’s over 12 months as well.
