DLA change of bank details by post

Hi

My husband receives DLA and has done for a non changing disability since he was a child. However when he turned 16/18 (not sure which) it never changed into his bank it just kept being paid into the account it was originally set up with (that parents had access to).

Due to changing relationships with parents he now wants to change the bank details but never seems to be able to make the call during their opening hours due to work commitments etc etc.

Does anyone know if they will accept a change of bank details in writing and if so what would need to be included in the letter for this to be changed? I tried to call the DWP offices but they refused to even tell me what to include in a letter as I’m not a claimant 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks

Are his parents still his appointee or is it just the bank account?

cheeseandpickle93 · 09/03/2018 10:08

No I think it’s just that they originally set up the account and he never bothered to change it. All the letters etc are addressed just to him at our home so I assume the claim is just all in his name.

Are his parents transferring the money to his account then.

No it is currently just accumulating in said account (as husband doesn’t need it every month) however they are very cagey when asked about the bank etc otherwise it would be very straightforward as we would just ask them to hand over bank details but they always have an excuse.

I have a friend who works in the dla dept of dwp , I will ask them .

Do you not know the old details ?

cheeseandpickle93 · 09/03/2018 10:47

Thanks so much! No unfortunately don’t have old bank details but the letters all come to our address so if there was a reference number presumably it would be on there? Obviously have all National insurance details etc

Hi I spoke to him , he said yes it's fine to write , include all the details you know, rate of award , end date am assuming indefinite, NI number, dob, address and the new bank details.
If that's not enough information they will write back and let your dh know if they need more information.
