Scottish Power Won't Let Me Switch Suppliers...

I have had my gas and electric supplied by Scottish Power for years. Never a problem with my account, in fact I'm well in credit. Years out of contract and in January I realised I could get a far better deal elsewhere. I applied to another company, but Scottish Power have continually blocked my application to move. The new company say there is an 'objection', however, I have spoken to SP four times and on each occasion they tell me there are no objections on my account and to reapply. I raised a complaint with SP the fourth time it happened and was assured someone would phone me last week at a certain time, when the problem would "almost-definitely" be resolved....of course, they didn't call and I have been unable to get through on the phone. Their online complaints tracker just says they will have information by the 15th March. Is this a common problem? I feel like Scottish Power are holding me to ransom! The whole situation is really causing me stress! Also, the new company I applied to have taken direct debits out of my account, as SP blocked the transfer after the DD's had be set up. I have yet to have that money refunded, despite assurances that they would. Are there any reliable utilities companies? Has anyone else had a similar experience and, if so, how was it resolved?

I think there is a utility ombudsman you can contact OFGEM.

I am having the same problem with Scottish Power. They have rejected the transfer for the fifth time.

@ testingtestingsmallintestine Has your problem been solved? if so how?

thank you.

Make sure you go through SP's formal complaints procedure.

ototnimo · 15/08/2018 16:28

Yes I have emailed them today.
Is that the correct procedure?

Thank you.

I had a 2 year hell with SP to leave.

I got out in the end but it was a big fight

I left SP this year and moved to an excellent company. The only issues I had were with final meter readings/monies due which eventually got sorted. New company much cheaper, great customer service and easy to understand bills, I'm already in £££ credit which will mean no increase to DD in the winter months and am paying half what SP charged me. I have a link for £50 credit when you join which I can pm you if you like OP? Don't want to post publicly as it reveals your real name.

I am and have even going through he'll with scottish power. Eventually went to ombudsman , they gave me £100 comp and promised block was moved from me transferring to other company, that was 17th June, accepted because I stupidly believed them , they have since blocked it a further 2 times, I had to go back to ombudsman, next step off gem. Most incompetent company ever, I wouldn't hold my breath for a quick resolution with this lot , they are horrendous I feel like I'm in a waking nightmare.

I am going through he'll with scottish power, had to go to ombudsman then they gave me £100 comp and saidog objection marker was took off so I agreed to close case, they have gone on to block my move a further 2 times so I have went back to ombudsman, this company need shutting down, I suggest you Google bad reviews for scottish power it is a horror story of complaints about everything, customer er service is a joke lying through their teeth constantly, my case has turned into a three ringed circus , althogh circus clowns would have sorted things out by now.
