MAT Pay?

I'm not sure whether this is something that will differ from company to company but I'm wondering for those who have a company car or get paid a car allowance. How does this work if you are on MAT leave? Do you have to hand the car back/not get paid the car allowance during MAT leave?

Not sure but I don't think they can stop any benefits they normally provide you with just because you're on maternity leave as that can amount to discrimination. Benefits I had like gym membership all continued during my mat leave, so I would have thought it would be the same with the car? But I'm sure someone will come along who actually knows more about these things.

I did think that but thought I'd see if anyone on here had experience either way.
Thank you :)

Hasn't affected me personally but ACAS and Gov.uk both say you keep all entitlements while on mat leave and specifically mention cars

You should (legally) be entitled to all benefits except salary during Mat leave, therefore car or car allowance.

I've been told I keep my car but have to hand in my fuel card so I still get to use the vehicle but have to pay all fuel myself. I assume that if the car breaks down or needs a service the normal rules will apply via the fleet service.

I had a company car when I went on maternity and got to keep it throughout the time I was off as I still got taxed the same amount.

Stinkbomb · 10/03/2018 23:55

Yes, you will still have to pay the same tax - you pay the tax for the benefit of having the car for your personal use, and the fact the company pay the insurance, repairs, recovery, costs etc for you.

Stinkbomb · 10/03/2018 23:57

rosegarden* what does your co tract say about the fuel card? If its only for business journeys, then fair enough (you won't be doing any on mat leave) but if you had it, and paid the tax on the benefit got all fuel purchases, this might be a completely different situation.

I got to keep my car for the duration, the payments for the car were made by my employer.

A pretty good perk really.
