Maternity Allowance...

Hello!

I have an odd question. I was speaking to a lady from the Job Centre today about my claim for Income Support. She asked me when I was due to have my baby, then said she needed to double check something and that she would ring me back. She duly did so, and said that she'd been checking my dates and that as well as Income Support, Child Tax Credit and my Child Benefit that I would also be entitled to Maternity Allowance.

Now, I have not worked since the summer of 2004 as I decided to give up my part time job and become a fully at home mum. I thought that you had to be working to get Maternity Allowance?

Does anyone have any experience of this? I don't want to be claiming something I am not entitled to.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have on this.

Agnes
