Water meter?

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has saved money by getting a water meter installed? We currently pay approx £55 per month for a 3 bed semi with 2 adults and 2 children.

I think it would have the added benefit of making us more aware of the water we're using too.

TIA

If you ring your water supplier they can do you an estimate, I did this just last night. They ask you how many times a week you use the washing machine, roughly how many showers / baths you use etc. then they can compare the estimate to your current bill.

For me it is worth it as my 2 adult children have just left home, so only me & my consumption must have gone down. They reckon I can halve my bill 😁

Plus our provider allows us to try it for two years & switch back if rateable is better.

Remember things like if you water the garden / pots a lot in summer too. But I guess you could get a water butt to help there.

£55 sounds a lot so might be worth a try!

I wouldn't. I was in a 2 bed semi paid 450 per year. I'm on a meter now and pay 900 per year. Family of 6. I think they say once you get to 5 people in the house a meter work out more expensive.

Sorry meant to say 3 bed semi not 2. We moved to a 4 bed that has a meter then it ramped up the cost for us.

Thanks Dory and Raver. I think I'll give my supplier a call and get an estimate Smile

Yes Raver you're right - think larger families are better off staying rateable if there is that option.

That said I don't mind paying for what is used, does focus your mind on not wasting a precious resource I guess.

Totally re thinking things now it's just me !
