Tax Credits Question

I have just checked my bank account and under my 'pending transactions' it says I'm due a payment from Child Tax Credits of over £1000 tomorrow, as well as an additional payment of £17.

Does anyone have any experience of Tax Credits sending you a crazy amount of money for seemingly no reason? My husband lost his job around 4 months ago and they cut our payment to £16 a week at around the same time, so if they really are sending us this much it could be an absolute blessing but I don't want to get my hopes up!

Like I said, it isn't due in my account until tomorrow so it may well not even be paid in or something but I just wanted to check with people on here before I potentially waste my entire lunch hour on hold to them only to be told it's nothing!

Could be anything really. It could be money they owe you , although they don't seem to be paying it in lump sums so much now, it could be a mistake and was intended for someone else. Either was you need to ring them unless you want to wait a few days and see if you get a letter explaining why they have paid it. often the money is paid in before you get a letter.

They decided to withhold 6 months worth of money from me, for no reason, until the end of the following tax year. So yes I got a lump sum of over £1000 but I knew about it in advance. I have no idea why they randomly paid me an extra £200 or so a few months ago but I have just made sure I have the money to pay it back if necessary.

Have you calculated what you are entitled to now? its important if you can to know what you are supposed to get as in my experience they overpay/underpay and generally muck people about all the time.

You can check your tax credit account online. It will give you the next 3 payments due. If that matches with what your bank say (who do you bank with btw?, I would love an account that told me what was pending in as well as out)
