*ANYONE WHO HAS CHANGED MORTGAGE LENDERS IN THE LAST 6 YEARS MUST READ THIS*

If you have changed mortgage lenders in the last 6 years you would have been charged an exit fee.

This should have been £50 but many banks/building societies charged up to £300. This has now been officially declared out of order and a phone call to your previous dealer will give you back anything you paid over the £50 plus interest.

It was that Martin money man on GMTV this morning who said all this and would you believe, one phone call to the Woolwich and I'm £100 + better off.

No iffs, no butts (like reclaiming bank charges), they just have to give it to you.

Tell everyone - I'm all for the small guy getting justice over the big ones!

ZipadiSuzy · 03/07/2007 15:35

PC I thought you meant £3,000 not £30.00

Nip · 03/07/2007 15:59

Stupid question - but do you just need your mortgage account number to do this?

And exactly what do i ask for? Sorry to be really dumb - mortgages confuse the hell out of me!!!

frogs · 03/07/2007 16:23

Yes!!! Love you all!!! I've just phoned Standard Life Bank and a cheque for £150 will be on its way.

Nip I did still have the paperwork for the old mortgage, but I'm sure they could do it without that as long as you had all the details address, names, dob blahdiblah. I just phoned up and said, "Er yes, hello, we used to have a mortgage with you, and I'm phoning about the mortgage discharge fee (which is what Standard Life call it)" and she knew exactly what I was after. They have special teams set up to deal with it.

bundle · 03/07/2007 16:24

frogs, why don't you just get them to do a direct debit to lkbennet?

frogs · 03/07/2007 16:42

Indeed, bundle, the thought had crossed my mind. Sadly the payment is already earmarked to go to the specialist surveyor who will be attending tomorrow to investigate some panels in the cellar that dh is convinced are asbestos. It's a tough call: new dress vs lingering death from mesothelioma.

PinkChick · 03/07/2007 17:02

i did mean £3000 it was a tie in

Practicalpet · 04/07/2007 14:33

Thanks to emma tomATO for this thread.

I have recieved a letter today after a telephone call yesterday to BM (couldn't find my paperwork-redeemed 5yrs ago)they say I paid £80.00 and as a goodwill gesture they are repaying it in full.

No luck with IF as I only paid £50.00 last year!

Nevertheless THANKS - What a result!!!!

hex · 05/07/2007 11:11

this 'last six years'??...is that a rigid deadline? or does it apply to MEFs before then too?

ZipadiSuzy · 09/07/2007 10:23

yes I think so!
