Just in case you were planning on paying your self assessment bill with the credit card.

A bloody odd date to choose.

Happy tax season all!

Do you know what the payment options are? Bank transfers??

Twickerhun · 04/01/2018 20:12

Thank you btw

ClashCityRocker · 04/01/2018 20:14

Yup bank transfer fine

Just to add if you have a business credit card you can use that.... It's just personal cards they won't accept.

Thank you. Didn't know this.

SleightOfMind · 04/01/2018 20:50

Thanks Clash. I hadn’t seen this either.

greenlanes · 04/01/2018 21:00

why the change?

ClashCityRocker · 04/01/2018 21:11

I suspect because they can't charge a surcharge for credit card payments anymore..

They're trying to tie it in with getting people to budget for their tax (which, in part, is what MTD) was all about rather than rely on credit cards, so I think that's also part of their rationale.

thank you Clash. Sounds very probable!

MTD?

ClashCityRocker · 04/01/2018 21:15

Making Tax Digital.

I'm over-simplifying, but basically submitting quarterly returns for your business/rental accounts with a final return for accounting adjustments etc. All records and submission to be kept digitally with specific (not free) software.

It's been put on the back burner for now, 2020 has been booted about for it coming in but hopefully it has been shelved.

Is debit card OK? That link is ambiguous (like most hmrc publications Hmm)

ClashCityRocker · 04/01/2018 21:16

Debit card still fine.

the ban on credit card surcharges is exactly the reason. That's also why cashback credit cards are on the way out.
