New job, new payday, will I be paid in Jan?

I start a new job on 3rd January, payday is on 15th of each month. I have no idea when the cut off date is and I’m paid a monthly salary.

Do any HR/Finance folks know whether I’m likely to be paid for those first 9 days or am I looking at a long stretch (56 days 😔) to be paid in February? I started my last job mid-payroll but I must have been overpaid because the maths is nonsense.

I’m in the same boat with same start date and pay day. I was told my bank details had to be with HR by 29th of December in order to ensure I was paid. Might be worth ringing them up and checking.

Thanks, for some reason the sensible approach of calling them didn’t cross my mind Grin

However they only managed to confuse me (thought I understood until I ended the call and actually thought about it!) - apparently I’ll be paid 2 weeks in arrears, so the first payday will be 3rd-31st Jan. I’m guessing the HR lady got muddled and meant in advance, not arrears? Confused

If the payday is the 15th and covers the period 3rd to 31st then I guess it’s two weeks in advance and two weeks in arrears??

I am expecting to get paid on the 15th, I sent them my bank details a month ago! Grin

Good luck for the new job.

To me that sounds like you will be paid on 15th February for the period of January - the pay packet is two weeks after the period you are being paid for?

If you were starting at my place of work I'd ensure you were on the payroll. Most places have around a 10 day period to get people added but in reality it takes minutes to pop someone on the system.

If you missed the cut off for some reason then I'd offer you an advance.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/12/2017 11:28

You will almost certainly have missed the cut off, although there's no reason why they can't add you later or arrange an advance.

Our pay day is the 25th but the cut off is something ridiculous like the 5th.
