Hi
I just wanted to ask cause im confused. I had my baby in July which was the first month of my maternity pay but every month seen then my wages each month have went down. I understood they would change the first 6weeks of maternity which would mean middle of August but i thought from sept they would be the same amount each month til i go back. Wanted to check before i spoke to my employer.

What is your maternity policy? Some have

Weeks 1-6 90% of wage
Weeks 7-21 SMP plus 50% of wage
Weeks 22-39 SMP only.
Weeks 40 plus, nothing.

So it depends on your policy.

BritInUS1 · 04/12/2017 16:39

It depends on how many weeks are in a month when you are paid monthly

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 04/12/2017 16:41

I get
2 weeks 100% pay
6 weeks 90% pay
33 weeks SMP
34-52 no pay

JoJoSM2 · 04/12/2017 17:16

Is it just SMP or any enhanced payments? Did you work literally until the day you gave birth?

Josiebear16 · 05/12/2017 09:25

I took june off using my holiday leave for this year so i wouldnt lose it. I will be just getting pay smp

If it’s SMP only, then 90% of your pay for 6 weeks and then £140.98 per week for 33 weeks (unless your earnings were lower - then you get 90% of your earnings ). So it should have been the same amount since mid-August and should carry on for another few months.

If you get paid monthly it can fluctuate as you will get more in a 5 week month than a 4 week month. I'm also sometimes getting tax back, which is added on.

SE12mum · 05/12/2017 14:29

Mine changed depending on whether there were 4 or 5 sundays in the month. I also got a small tax rebate each month.

X post Cassie!

Use this online calculator, which should show you how much SMP you'll get each month:

www.gov.uk/maternity-paternity-calculator

It will fluctuate each month if you're paid monthly, depending on how many days are in the month.
