Insurance claim - own loss assessors?

We've got an ongoing insurance claim, which should be straightforward but we've been subject to various delays already by the insurance company and their contractors so far.

I am thinking of appointing our own loss assessor to progress the claim. Does anyone have experience of appointing a loss assessor and what difference this made? Thank you.

You cannot appoint your own loss adjuster. They work for the insurer.
