Cashback through shopping apps

I'm keen to give one of the cashback websites a go, but wonder how it works if you shop via e.g. Asda app?
The cashbook sites seem to need you to go through the retailers website, buy the apps are so much more convenient.
Any advice gratefully received.

It doesn't work if you use the retailers app, you have to go through the cashback website otherwise you don't get the cashback.

I thought that might be the case, but thanks for clarifying Mickey
