Sorting money out and need to get life insurance for Dh. He works and I don't. Mortgage is £110k outstanding. No pension. Kids 18,16,13. How much life insurance should Dh get? Income is roughly £80k. He's self employed.

At least enough to cover the mortgage!
There is a large number of options it might be worth discussing with financial advisor or doing some research on the issue before picking a policy

Thanks whymust. IFA says 500k which would leave 400k to live in if worst happened. Sounds a lot but not if it's spread over 40 years?

500k does seem a lot but it really is all in perspective as to what you can afford now/what you would like
My life cover only covers the mortgage but this amount stays steady while the mortgage decreases for us that is enough - As we are happy that other living costs would be covered by any pay or worst case benefits and depending on the mortgage level there would be a bit left over

I personally would have a lower life cover and hence lower premium and start paying into a pension as it’s more likely that pension will be needed rather than the life policy being needed/claimed on
