There is no such thing as easy to use payroll software, sorry. They are all as bad as each other.

How big a company, anything complex or just straightforward? I think the Inland Revenue give you some free if you ask them - they sent me some anyway, but I stuck with Quickbooks.

I always used to use Sage, which was reasonably easy, and they have a good support desk so if you can't figure it, they will help you.

It is a small limited company.

As ong as its not SAGE i'm open to suggestions. hate sage accounts so dont imagine the payroll is much nicer.

Sage is the only one I can think of. I think it's great but if you hate the accounts package then maybe you won't like it

Ask your accountant to recommend one, or they should be able to do it for you for a fee.

What's wrong with Sage accounts if you don;t mind me asking? I use it at work and find it fine. We also recommend it to everyone(I work for a Chartered accountants)

Oh and if you only have a couple of employees you could do the payroll manually, although IMO this is a PITA!!

I use SAGE too. I've had no training other than peering over someones shoulder so have self taught basically.

EllieKthePA · 10/04/2007 18:24

I've used Sage and Quickbooks, I prefered Sage but can see that Quickbooks is easier to use in general

glassslipper · 13/04/2007 09:00

I just find SAGE a bit complicated but that's probably because I have taught myself.

Try www.xero.com. It also works with a myriad of differnet software you might be using for your business already. e.g. www.workflowmax.com, www.jobsheetapp.com, jobadder.com, www.freshmilksoftware.com, www.gettimely.com the list is endless. What does your company do? I know a lot about software!

I use Kwik payroll that is free for small business' but fully functional. It is aimed at us Kiwis and Aussies but available to download anywhere. May just be the pre loaded tax etc. that may be different. I guess you can change this all manually to the UK figures.

Try Superpay. I used this at my previous job and it was so straightforward. I now have to use Sage and hate it with a passion.
