Hello - if there is anybody who works in banking who can help I'd be really grateful

I - well my Mum actually - have a problem with ING in Madrid.

My Mum sold her Spanish flat and her buyers got a mortgage with ING. The sale completed and she received an ING cheque in Euros which she deposited with her UK bank (First Direct/HSBC) She was told It would take 6-8 weeks to clear - this was on 17th June this year.

The cheque still hasn't cleared - but it hasn't been dishonoured either. Her bank say that ING wrote to them in August to ask if they wanted the cheque to be paid and they replied that they did. Since then they say they have sent several reminders but haven't had any response.
The UK bank have now said they can do nothing to resolve the problem. (Which seems unbelievable to me)

Does anybody have any ideas on how to progress this - we are not Spanish speakers which obviously doesn't help!

Thanks for any advice!
