I have just phoned one of my creditors and now feel scummy and low.
Would be nice to talk to others in similar situation.

started off getting a loan to pay it all off, then ran up more due to DH being out of work. Vicious circle of rob peter to pay paul etc. Then went for an IVA. It was great to start with then DH got sick then and couldn't work so ended up going bankrupt last year. Not a decision we took lightly. We had £30,000 of debt.

JARM · 03/04/2007 10:54

ill join, although hopefully we will be in a better place in a few months.

DH is being medically discharged from the army, so we are looking at about £10k payout - should take the chunk of the debts away.

we are currently in a debt management programme, wish we hadnt done it because we are paying the company to do nothing much, but think we may as well stick with it for the time being as we know we are going to pay a lot of it off.

When we started in July 04 we had £27k of debt!

I'm currently considering my options re trying to sort out my debts. JARM, who have you got a debt management plan with? I'm considering one with CCCS, but it says it's free, other people seem skeptical about that though.

NuttyMuffins · 14/04/2007 18:38

I am also currently considering my potions, still have half of my head in the sand though tbh.

I keep telling myself that I am coping financially but i am not.

Nemo2007 · 14/04/2007 18:39

hugs to you been there too..also ended up getting an IVA as I was medically discharged from work due to severe depression. Was either the IVA or we lost everything.

NuttyMuffins · 14/04/2007 18:41

See I can't get an IVA as i'm not working so am not sure what other options I have other than bankruptcy.

have been there. in the end we sold our flat to get the money to pay the debts off (over 20k) we were meant to be moving to a larger but cheaper place in milton keynes, but they wouldnt let us get anew mortage as our credit history was so bad, and if we didnt pay the new mortage there wasnt any equity for the mortage company. so we cleared a lot of the debts and paid for private rent, then dh fell ill, so debts all built back up as was on benefits, dont want to get into tooo much details, but we split up for over a year in amongst all that time, he went bankrupst and i just made arrangments with people to pay things off that were in my name.

one of the major debts i had from back then is still being paid off, but that finishes in 6months time, and cant bloody wait, thats will be an extra £200 a month to put towards other small bills. i think a 6k loan has ended up costing over £10k but i wlll be so pleased to be shot of it and that bank.
