Maternity allowance / business question

Hello,
I've googled and can't get the answer I'm looking for.

I set up a business last year and as of yet I am not making a profit or breaking even. Every penny made goes straight back into the business.

I am almost 6 pregnant and am starting to wonder about maternity allowance.

I am self employed and my business is a limited company.

To be able to get maternity allowance do I have to stop trading? Even though I will not be taking a wage?

Thank you

Surely if your business is a limited company you are employed? I'm employed by my own limited company and I got SMP. HMRC paid it out in advance to the business.

Of course to get SMP you need to pay yourself enough in the qualifying period.
