I've signed up for one of these after hearing rave reviews from friends. Wondered if anyone has any experience of it?

I want to use it to transfer across a certain amount every month to avoid over spending.

I find it really useful. I would always carry another card with you though, as sometimes they have problems and you can't use them for a few hours. They usually let you know when there is a problem though.

I got one for holiday spending (and it worked perfectly across USA and Canada) but I had some money left on it when we got home so have been using it for day-to-day spending and find it really great for keeping track of what I'm spending as it shows what you've spent and where and remaining balance.

Come pay day, I'm going to transfer an amount across to it and use it for budgeting as I'm crap at keeping track of my spending.

It does have occasion periods of no service but they do advise carrying a second card and you'll receive updates about any issues. I think there have been 2-3 short disruptions to service in the few months I've had it.

A friend has one of these. I must go read the website,,in the interim, what is so good about them that other card issuers dont do already?

TuiMitcham · 20/08/2017 16:45

TDH I get an alert on my phone every time I buy something with it, then you can see where and when you've spent money. Then they can plot graphs etc. It's sort of a mix of a budgeting app linked with a card you can spend on. Easier to see what you've spent and where than with just a bank statement. I don't work for Monzo btw!!

This is the app. I've downloaded a few budgeting/money tracking apps in the past but this seems much better.

I just took one on holiday. 0 fees for withdrawal. I think it's great. However, my partner had one and had a lot of problems with the pin not working. They kept sending him new ones that didn't work. Think it's put him off.

DH has one and loves it. Only iss is as per a pp that there are sometimes issues with it not working (it's in beta test at the moment) so take a back up. Great for holidays and DH plans on getting it for everyday usage once the teething problems are ironed out as it's good for budgeting,

TheNemesisOfLame · 21/08/2017 08:29

I used one for the first time these holidays in Spain.
There was one day where it wouldn't work - and there was an email about the problems. But apart from that it was great. Easy to transfer money to the card, exchange rate was good, no fees for anything and the app showed up all the transactions immediately.
You can use it here too so you don't have to swap currency back.
DH has now taken it Denmark - so we'll see how it performs there.
I can see the appeal of it as a main account (although my loyalty is with First Direct Grin)

Is there an age restriction on it? I wonder whether this would be good for a teenager. One of ours struggles with budgeting. (The other always knows to the penny how much they've got and what they've spent it on!)

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/08/2017 08:40

I would gully recommend them.

DH and I both have one.

There are times when it doesn't work but they are rare.
