Messed up a loan application- fixable?

So we need a new car. We wanted to borrow £12k. However, we weren't sure whether to use savings and take a smaller loan so I did 2 quotes online. I logged in to finally apply for the larger amount. But accidentally pressed the continue with application which meant they did the credit check- and approved the loan on the £8k quote! So no I have an £8k loan with the click of one button!! What's my best option? There is a 14 day cooling off period so I can 'return' the money but does the fact I've applied affect the credit rating and prevent another application for the £12k that I need? Have I buggered this up completely? I've looked up my credit score and it's looking good-excellent so how much of an impact will this have had?

What did shock me was how easy the money was to get. Did the soft quotes Friday (the ones that don't show on a credit file) and then simply logged in yesterday and then clicked the continue with application and bam the next screen said 'congratulations your application has been approved' and there was no option to go back- only to continue to accept and download the credit agreement.

So what do I do? Return and re-apply. Try to get them to top it up to the second quote if that's even possible??

I'd give them a call in case it looks like youre trying to get 20k?

I tried but they are closed until tomorrow and I've been sat really worried I've completely stuffed everything up. So wanted to know if anyone had managed to do something similar and if it was salvageable?

Give them a phone tomorrow. Explain what's happened. Usually a few days cooling off period so should be fine

Not happened to me, but it's definitely salvegable. My credit card company wrote to me asking if I wanted to up my limit from 8k to 12k (I don't!). Stop worrying and just lift the phone tomorrow, honest! Just don't do any more clicking till you have Flowers

I'm.sure if you speak to them and explain they can sort you with the loan you require. The credit check just completed probably wont have hit your credit file yet and you definitely have a cooling off period.

I returned the money but their systems said no re-application for 40 days. The OH has applied and was accepted so it is all sorted but I've certainly learnt my lesson on how easy it is to click absent minded li through an application!
