First Direct Banking - good?

yummycake123 · 15/08/2017 18:37

I'm thinking of switching bank accounts from Lloyds to First Direct.
I've read really good reviews about First Direct, and they offer free overdraft up to £200 I think. Currently I pay £6/month for my authorised overdraft.
Are they as good as they say they are?

I've banked with them for over 20 years and have a mortgage with them too. They are fab. The online banking is very user friendly and you can always get through on the phone. I wouldn't switch.

Squeegle · 15/08/2017 18:41

They are fantastic. You won't regret it . Excellent service

PieceOfTheMoon · 15/08/2017 18:44

I've banked with them for years. They're great - very human.

Standstilling · 15/08/2017 18:45

Absolutely bloody awesome. And I am v cynical

MayhemandMadness01 · 15/08/2017 18:45

I used to be with them and they were fantastic. Although it really threw me the first time that I rung them as a person actually answered the phone Shock rather than the normal push 1 for this and 2 for that. I only changed because I needed to pay money in on a regular basis so needed a branch. Would go back in a heartbeat.

LadyWithLapdog · 15/08/2017 18:45

Very good for us too.

Littlefish · 15/08/2017 18:46

I would definitely recommend them. I've been using them for about 15 years now.

Redglitter · 15/08/2017 18:47

They're excellent. I wouldn't bank with anyone else now

SkivingAgain · 15/08/2017 18:47

Another happy customer of over 20 years here.

elephantoverthehill · 15/08/2017 18:47

I've been with them for about 30 years, really helpful and always someone on the phone when you need to sort something. They approached me in suggesting I was owed PPI money.

Allice · 15/08/2017 18:47

I'm a cynical old cow and I can't recommend them enough, it's a great bank and I'll never leave.

Fekko · 15/08/2017 18:48

Great customer service. Very helpful and actually do what they say they will do! I've been with them since they started.

whisperinglow · 15/08/2017 18:49

I have banked with them for over 20 years too. Have never regretted it. Excellent phone service. Easy online banking. Great security levels.

RubyJack · 15/08/2017 18:49

Been with them since they started and can totally recommend.

Autumnchill · 15/08/2017 18:50

Worth checking on Moneysavingexpert as sure there was a switch offer of £150 recently. I moved to M&S and got £200 on an M&S gift card. Just have to have 2 direct debits and £1000 going in each month.

LadyLapsang · 15/08/2017 20:00

Excellent service - been with them about 25 years.

Rosieposy4 · 15/08/2017 20:03

Great bank, also been with them for more than 25 years.

TheNumberfaker · 15/08/2017 20:04

We love them too and have just taken out a 10 year fix on a mortgage as well. You can pay money in at HSBC branches if you need to.

Haffdonga · 15/08/2017 20:07

Another very satisfied very long term FD customer. (I know I've been with them 25 years at least because they sent me a card Confused ). It's pretty unusual to get such overwhelmingly positive reviews for a bank. There's got to be something in it.

BigGreenOlives · 15/08/2017 20:21

I've been with them since before 1993, I don't remember when I moved to them. They have been really good throughout.

Haffdonga · 15/08/2017 20:35

@MayhemandMadness01 - you can pay in to First Direct at all HSBC branches.

Squeegle · 15/08/2017 20:42

I think they need to see this thread. We're all so happy!

BumpGoesBumpety · 15/08/2017 20:53

Another switcher here - I got paid to switch and it went through 100% perfectly much to my surprise. I like the online banking app for iPhone and have also found no difficulty calling them whatsoever (again another huge surprise!)

elephantoverthehill · 15/08/2017 21:53

I rang FD tonight. I need a loan for a car (possibly) or I might go for a stop gap car. I got very straight forward information about the loans available and mentioned this thread too!

Millybingbong · 15/08/2017 21:56

Also pretty Sure you can pay ino at post office if you have one near. unlikely
