Help! Refused credit , no money

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 16:22

Hello,
Urgently seeking advice. I work but have been left in a situation where I have no money whatsoever until the last day of the month:
I have emergency on gas and electric and little food in the house.

I've contacted the council , csa, credit unions and all have been unable to help because I am not classed as urgent because I am employed. Existing credit rating from ex partner has left me with a zero chance of lending a

I have no family who are able to help and my only friend is on holiday.
I feel like I'm in the middle of a nervous break down and don't know where to turn.

Can anyone suggest what I can do with regard to my finance!

My local food bank is 13 miles away and I do not drive. I'm so anxious I don't even feel like I can leave the house. Please help.

Could you get a loan from your employer?

theaveragewife · 05/08/2017 16:24

Do you have anything that will sell quickly on ebay? Things like games consoles usually go pretty quick and the money can be in your account as soon as it is paid!

theaveragewife · 05/08/2017 16:25

Or a car boot sale tomorrow?

Notreallyarsed · 05/08/2017 16:28

Is there one of those "cash for clothes" places where you can take unwanted clothes and they give you 50p a kilo nearby? Not ideal but might give you something to tide you over.

The only way I can see is to ask for an advance from your employer. And perhaps seek some money management guidance to help you budget better. Or overdraft from the bank.

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 16:30

Thanks everyone for your replies.

My employer are unable to pay in advance or loan me anything (company policy apparently). I've hunted around the house to see if i have anything of value to sell on fb groups, eBay , carboots etc and all I have is an old kettle and two pairs of jeans. I've posted them on Facebook this morning but haven't had a response from anyone. Sadly there are no local car boot sales near me so would need to have travel expense to get there.

I've tried every avenue and am getting no where. I've contemplated a loan shark but read they can be bad news. Also looked online to see if their is a "friend loan" type website that doesn't check credit file but no luck with that either :(

Do you have any money saved on Nectar cards or similar that you could use to pay for food?

Contact your friend and ask her to PayPal you a loan? I wouldn't have a problem with this if it were me and you were a mate

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 05/08/2017 16:33

Put some stuff on your local FB selling page. Maybe clothes you can do without? Or electronic stuff if you have any. Say that you need it collected tomorrow. People will pay cash which hopefully will keep you going for a bit.

Good luck

TartanDMs · 05/08/2017 16:34

Not ideal but what about a Provident loan? They have awful rates of interest but at least they accept anyone regardless of credit rating and are safer than a loan shark and cheaper than payday loan. Just. They come to your house so you wouldn't have to go to them.

Phosphorus · 05/08/2017 16:34

I'm sure your friend would happily transfer £10 or so to your account, even on holiday.

The CAB will often help with ore pay meter cards, did you ask specifically? Churches often have informal food banks, so there might be one closer than you think. They often deliver too, or have contacts locally.

Google all the local churches.

80sMum · 05/08/2017 16:34

Try your local church? There may be some help available there, such as emergency food.

GahBuggerit · 05/08/2017 16:34

Defo contact your friend, that's what they are for, to prop each other up in hard times. You'll be fine

drspouse · 05/08/2017 16:34

Can you do some babysitting to get in some cash? Not sure if you have DCs though that you can't leave in the evenings.

GahBuggerit · 05/08/2017 16:35

Oh yes church too, always one of those local, somehow!!!

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 16:37

The only electronic item left in my house is my cooker. To cut a long story short my partner left with everything. I'm trying to rebuild my life again but my bank have now cancelled my overdraft facility with immediate effect leaving me with nothing. I've checked nectar and boots card, nothing on there.

I'm appreciating the fact I have a roof over my head at the moment and trying to think positive but I'm slowly running out of ideas.

I have my old laptop which I am using to post this thread, but it's a work computer- so would be a threat to my job if I sold this too.

Actually church isn't a bad idea. My dad was a minister (vicar) and we always had emergency bags made up with food/toiletries/cleaning products and a small amount of cash for milk/electric/gas. Try a manse/vicarage.

Sadams1991 · 05/08/2017 16:38

My friend is abroad on holiday with no internet connection. I have no other way of contacting her :(

Thank you for the church idea I will see if anywhere is open and available to help :)

Do you have children? Could you go to stay with relatives until you get paid? Have you got any cash at all? Can you get to work?

Freddystarshamster · 05/08/2017 16:39

My friend is abroad on holiday with no internet connection. I have no other way of contacting her

What are the chances eh?

Ginorchoc · 05/08/2017 16:39

In 2014 I found myself in this position and couldn't even get my daughter to school for a few days due to the distance. I ended up with a very small Zopa loan, its peer to peer lending and I paid it off a few weeks later they looked at my circumstances and were really good might be worth a try?

MissJC · 05/08/2017 16:40

Ring your friend on holiday, I would absolutely not mind if you was my friend and in this situation I would transfer you some emergency cash.

Do you have anything you can pawn until payday? Not ideal but I'm racking my brains for you but struggling to come up with anything except what pp have mentioned about selling stuff.

Would your bank be willing to extend your overdraft? Worth asking, they can only say no.
