i could someone help me please,I'm a mother of 4 and I'm looking to find a private property to rent as don't want to stay in London I'm currently working but handing in my notice end of the month, when I move me and my children's dad are looking to move in together could anyone please advise me as to how I could go about this,a lot of landlords won't take HB,I'm currently on full HB he earns 1600 a month before tax and NI,should I find a property then declare we're a couple or should I contact wtc and HB before hand I know if I declare it first it would make it easier for us to find somewhere a lot sooner, but dose anyone know how long HB take to change the circumstances as we may need HB top up,thanks in advance

If he has an income of £1600 you are very unlikely to be entitled to any housing benefit when he moves in. Expect a joint tax credit claim to take a number of weeks to sort and possibly expect a compliance check as if he is the father of your four kids they are possibly going to strongly suspect that you have been in a relationship for some time !!

Thank you,babyroods....I was thinking that are situation is sounds like we are but we're not if that makes sense he works away and is only seen on weekends he contributes to the kids which benefit already know about I did do a calculation online and it said I would pretty much be in the same situation now as I will not be working so he would be the only one bringing in the income do you know what type of questions they ask regarding the relationship because his name is only on the younger 2 birth certificate,

Why are you giving up work?

Babyroobs · 02/08/2017 16:51

Well I imagine they will suspect you have been in a relationship for a long time if you have 4 kids together. they will possibly want evidence of where he used to live etc. I'm not saying they will definitely check through compliance but surely it will flag up something if you've claimed as single all this time then the father of your kids suddenly moves in ???

Because I live in London,I work in a private school,so I'm currently on summer holidays,as I want to move to Brighton would be easier for me to find a job down there rather then commuting everyday

When I use to be in IS I had a meeting this was a few year back, she did ask the questions about having 4 and not living together....it was actually investigated but was no outcome to proof anything,he dose have evidence to proof he lives on and off at his parents....I'm just new to private renting that's why I needed advice and to see if anyone else has been in the same boat

I would imagine that they will think you have been committing benefit fraud for the past years , 4 kids together and not a couple! And even now you are quierrying if you should declare it
