partial payments and credit score

Please Can anyone tell me if I try and settle a credit card debt with a partial payment, can I request they mark it as settled, and how likely are they to do it. And would it have any effect on my credit rating ?

They are not likely to do it unless the account has been defaulted on for so long they lost all hope of getting any of it paid.

I think that's probably the case. I'm not sure where is best to get advice.

Ring the company you owe money to?

A debt isn't 'settled' unless it has been paid off in full.
