Ex H still using direct debit from wife's account

Any advice for my friend please? Her Ex husband is still paying for an insurance policy from her bank account. It renews automatically - this is the 3rd year of annual lump sum payments (not monthly)

Bank won't help (possibly because she gave permission 3 years ago?)

Ins Co won't talk to her because she is not the policy holder.

Ex hasn't sorted it out in 3 years so doubt he will suddenly spring into action now!

Is it legal for the bank to ignore this?! It doesn't seem right!

Can she get help from anywhere to get her money back or does she need to just write it off?

I googled these CPA things and this bloke has had payment taken on an expired card. He is pretty clear that it is fraud though! (and got his money back after a fight)

Ordinarily I would totally believe that he had authorised the payment BUT this time it simply isn't possible for him to have given them up to date details - there is no way that he would have known them.

I can see him saying for them to take the money, but even if he did, without new card details it would be fraud - surely?

The ex is simply not together enough to do something this complicated on purpose - his preferred method of living is 'ignore it and it will go away' - which is why I fully believe it is the insurance company that is the dodgy fucker here.

I've told her if it was me i would tell him to cancel the policy and she should then get a refund (especially as he has done soooo much research into quotes from other companies Hmm )
