Single Mum Tax Credits and Uni :-/

Hi,
I am thinking about going back to uni to qualify as an Occupational Therapist. This will be full time. Does anyone know what tax credits you can get as a full time student? Every little will help, I will be broke for 2 years to do this, but in the long term it will be better for my boys.

Has anyone else in a similar position to me gone back to uni as a single parent? How did you manage it apart from loans.

You will get child tax credit that's all I'm afraid. You might get a small amount of housing benefit too!

Is your area a Universal credit area? I think what students can claim is different under UC. How many children do you have ?

You can get child tax credits. Your Uni might have a dependents grant and grant for those on a low income. Afraid you might have to take out student finance loans

I went to uni as a single mom and I got child tax credits (£63 per week one child) and child benefit. I got the maximum student loan and grants and a small amount of housing benefit (£20 per week) but that depends on where you live, as my friend in the next county got full housing benefit and was in the same situation. You can claim income support or job seekers during the summer break I was told.

Should add you can also claim back money spent on childcare, it works out to be around 70%
