How much to save to move house?

Just wanting an average idea really of what people think and what to aim for. We have a little equity in our current house which is our first owned house. We will be looking to move to a larger property in the next year or two and I was just wondering about costs etc?

Should give you a ball park figure.

How long is a piece of string?
It depends on how much deposit you want to put down. How much your legal fees and surveys will cost. How much the removal van and other associated costs will be.

When we moved 8 years ago we really didn't have any savings. We managed to pay for the survey costs upfront (about £400) a damp specialist survey ((£300) and the removal firm fees (£700). We took the solicitors fees and stamp duty from our equity and held a bit of equity back for things like carpets and essential repair costs. In total we held back about £5000. However, we had quite a lot of equity and even with holding back a bit we still only needed a mortgage which was 60% LTv so we were able to get a good rate. 8 years later and our LTv has reduced to about 35% so we have no regrets about not waiting to save up.
