Tax return question for rental property

Last head I became an accidental landlord. I'm doing my self assessment and I'm confused with the mortgage interest bit. I asked the mortgage company for the interest statement for the previous tax year - the house was rented out for 6 months in that financial year. They sent a letter with the interest paid as a whole, rather than on a month by month basis. Do I just divide by 12 or get the precise figure over the phone?

You can divide by 12. Keep the statement though, in case HMRC query it.

You divide it by 2 if it was rented for 6 months provided that there were no rate changes during the year.
